Ft. Pickens Mine Storeroom Concessions Renovation
Tampa, Florida 2017 – 2019
This project included the design and renovation of the historic Mine Storeroom building near Fort Pickens at Gulf Islands National Seashore (GUIS) near Pensacola, Florida. The Mine Storeroom was historically used to store the mines that were placed in Pensacola Bay to protect the fort. The Mine Storeroom has an operational 2-ton crane supported on steel rails and wood framing that was used to lift and transport the mines. The building was in a state of disrepair from years of neglect. The project’s scope of work was to renovate the brick building to act as a small visitor’s center and concessions building by the nearby ferry dock. The brick was repaired and repointed, a new standing seam metal roof with tongue and groove wood decking was installed, the windows and shutters were restored, a new aluminum storefront entry vestibule was installed behind the existing large steel doors, new polished concrete floors were added, new LED lights were added, new AC units with exposed ductwork were installed, and the crane was restored.
RSA Architecture provided design, documentation, and construction administration for this historic NPS renovation project.
